“Ivers bridges the gap between her Celtic roots and styles ranging from jazz, salsa and flamenco to rock funk and even electronica….a sensation.” -Billboard Magazine
Recognized as “the Jimi Hendrix” of the violin” by the New York Times, Eileen Ivers will share her virtuosic talent with the Homer community March 27 at 7:30pm at the Mariner Theater. Eileen fully immersed herself in world music while growing up in the Bronx, New York, where multicultural sounds informed her musical future. By the age of 8 she was playing Irish music by ear, eventually becoming a legend in Celtic music competitions. But that was only the beginning: Eileen continues to push the fiddling tradition boundaries from a folk music staple to a fiercely fresh, powerfully beautiful, intensely driving world stage experience. Performing with symphony orchestras, diverse musicians like Sting, Patti Smith, and Al Di Meola, and featured on multiple soundtracks, Eileen is widely recognized as “a national treasure.” Eileen’s new, energetic, joyous and passionate band, Universal Roots, connect music, cultures, stories and emotions that tie us together …celebrating the fact that we are more alike than dissimilar. Music truly is the universal language.
